Welcoming Your Au Pair
Are you a veteran host family, or are you about to embark on your first adventure with your very first Au Pair? Regardless, there are a few steps you should take prior to your AP’s arrival to make her feel welcome in your home, transition her smoothly into living, working, and becoming an integral part of your family, and setting expectations with your family and with her to make it a positive and memorable experience for all. I can help!
A COMFORTABLE SPACE TO CALL HER OWN
Regardless of the size of your room and the size of your budget, it doesn’t take a lot of effort to pull together a comfortable space that feels cozy, inviting and personal.
A WELCOMING BASKET
Part of helping your Au Pair acclimate quickly to life in your home is making sure she feels cared for. A welcome basket could include the basic necessities, but add a few personal touches and the little extra attention will go a long way! Let me help you!
A CLEAR AND THOROUGH FAMILY MANUAL
You might not realize it, but there are so many things you prefer done a certain way. It would be impossible for anyone to keep track of all the fine details. Add to that a language and cultural barrier (as significant or insignificant as it might seem), and it’s just that much harder to keep track of everything. You don’t plan to have many rules and restrictions? great. You still have appliances, electronics and shared apps that likely need some explaining how to operate, and you likely have your own parenting style, family schedules, and ways you handle conflict with the kids that should all be included in the “how to be a part of our family” operation manual.

Curious About Life with an Au Pair?
We hosted 6 Au Pairs between 2016 – 2022. We had a great experience with Cultural Care, the largest Au Pair agency in the US. We chose CC specifically because of Carey Welsh, our Local Community Counselor (LCC). Her guidance and leadership has been exceptional since we’ve joined in 2016.
Regardless if you’re in the Burlingame area, or anywhere in the US, reach out to her, tell her I sent you and you’ll be in great hands. She will help you match with your first Au Pair, and then transition you to your local contact for ongoing support.
